My love and interest for bikes has ebbed-and-flowed for nearly fifteen years, starting when I biked to class during college in Seattle. After college, I pursued a career in education working for 826 Seattle (now the Greater Seattle Bureau of Fearless Ideas) and teaching for public high schools in Tennessee and Minnesota. I also worked for the Wild Rumpus, a bookstore for young readers, in Minneapolis (as a bookseller but also as "Animal Care Coordinator," which is a story that will be saved for when we're riding bikes together). During this time, bikes were a constant presence, if sometimes shifting to the periphery.
After my son was born, I started riding a bike with him to get groceries, to the playground, or just for fun. At first, he rode between my arms in a bike seat designed for children, then in a box bike I bought so that, as he grew, he could continue to sit in front of me, as the babble turned to chatter. When he was a year and a half old, I started to organize other parents for bike rides with our kids in south Minneapolis. Talking with other parents about bikes, I realized how passionate I was about the possibilities of bikes to truly change people's lives.
In the fall of 2017, I started organizing bike rides in Missoula, Montana. I hope you'll join me!
